1-Week Intro Into Ceramic

The one-week CFI Residential Ceramic course is a comprehensive overview of basic residential ceramic installation beginning with how to approach a customer’s door and ending with how to leave the jobsite.

Day 1

• Power Point – Safety, Jobsite condition, storage and handling
• Osha & EPA regulations
• ASTM Standards
• Importance of manufactures guidelines
• Substrate & Subfloor Subfloor preparation procedures
• Moisture Testing procedures

Day 2

• Demo
• Backerboard installation, roofing felt, staggering joints, thin-set under panels, galvanized nails fastening
• Trammel Points – locating center of room, squaring a room, establish a 45° / 90°
• Strike primary and secondary lines
• Cover balancing of tile
• Dry layout & cutting of tile

Day 3

• Wetting of substrate
• Key in of thin set
• Directional troweling
• Proper placement of tile
• Proper coverage min 80%
• No thin at movement areas
• Setting floor tile

Day 4

• Walls – Layout, Movement joints, Coverage, Clean cuts
• Grouting – mixing of grouts, proper water, placement of grout at angle to joint, clean out grout joint, proper firmness of grout

Day 5

• Written Test
• Walls: Layout, Movement joints, Coverage, Clean cuts
• Grouting – mixing of grouts, proper water, placement of grout at angle to joint, clean out grout joint, proper firmness of grout
• Cleaning of grout off tiles
• Caulking
• Cleaning of tools
